Nike SB

Gym Class Heroes just released a new video for ‘Live a Little’ from their less than spectacular release, the quilt. Definitely one of the best songs of the album, and I absolutely love this video for some reason.

Quite the weekend. My friday was spent with the Sharyland Rattlers, watching them win their 10th straight game and becoming the second program in all of Sharyland history to finish an undefeated season. Good group of kids, hoping to see them advance a few rounds in the playoffs. Shouts to Scottie Meyer, Ricky Mata, Chris Zuniga, Erik Martinez, and Bobby Moran.

Saturday I held the Minus the Bear show in McAllen. Amazing is an understatement, they completely blew me and everyone else away. Afterwards, I allowed my friends Katie and Vic co-host their own private birthday party at the house, so a nice bunch of us had some of the most amazing times in the vegas-themed fiesta. It wasn’t my party, so if you weren’t invited, don’t get all butt hurt. Kudos to Katie and Vic for the decorations.

Thanks for being there…

A huge THANK YOU to everyone that helped make friday night a success. We poured months of blood and tears to make sure we had one of the biggest shows of the tour, and I’m proud to say that we most definitely accomplished our goals. This show was unlike any other, I compared it to having a first child. I wanted everyone to be there, this show was to prove that we can do what the naysayers have told us we couldn’t.  For the love of music, we made it happen.

Special thanks to Gabriel, Abe, and Mitchell on capturing some of the most amazing photographs to help tell the tale.

And a huge thanks to the boys at VOLTA for making the afterparty happen where Gabe and Ryland were behind the decks all night.

three day weekend

I just came off a three day weekend where I spent most of time catching up on movies that I’ve missed. Four, in fact, were horror films. Paranormal Activity finally opens up in the area this friday, so be sure to find me at the thursday midnight showing at Tinseltown with a bunch of my friends. Here’s a quick briefing on my weekend picks.

Trick R’ Treat

Simply put, this is better than half the shit that actually makes it into theatres, yet it only got a straight to dvd release. This horror thriller follows several stories in a small town on Halloween eve where nothing is what it seems. I’ll be surprising some of my friends with this gem on october 31st.

Trick R' Treat

the House of the Devil

The House of the Devil, up until recently, only saw a film festival run. Now you’re able to purchase it on demand, which is what I did, for the low low price of $9.99. Geo will probably be upset with me, but it was well worth being able to watch it before it hits limited theaters. I may be wrong on that though. Either way, this horror thriller is set in the 80s, and they pull it off with flying colors. Story follows Samantha, a nearly broke college student trying to make any extra cash to afford her new apartment, which leads her to a babysitting job from hell.

Martyrs

About a year late on this one, but glad I picked up this foreign horror film over the weekend. Emotional, terrifying, and with a twist. Story follows a girls’ quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child. Usually when I show my friends movies like this, they ask “wtf do you have me watching…” I like to think that it’s a positive thing, since they’re so accustomed to watching shit films like “prom night” (remake), “hostel 2″, or “saw xii”.

Zombieland

Comedy horror, but an instant classic. Great enough for me to watch twice in theatres. The intro alone was well worth the $8.75, and Emma Stone has such an incredibly tuff girl character, very sexy. Compared to Shaun of the Dead, this easily takes the crown.

Seems like we’ve got the next Blair Witch Project on our hands. Paranormal Activity was shot with a low budget of $11,000 in a one week period, inspired by first time director Oren Peli’s own disturbing experiences after moving into a new home. I’ve been following this film for quite some time now, and it’s now finally going to make an extremely limited run in theaters beginning on the 25th of September. Nearest city? Austin Texas.

Every year I get to shoot the annual STARS fundraising concert, the non-profit organization whom raise money for south texas students who’ve also brought down Brad Paisley and Toby Keith. Last night was no different, except the headliner featured country sensation Sugarland, with special guests Billy Currington and Matt Nathanson. Two words: open bar.

top five of all time

Everytime someone asks me to name my top movies, I never have an answer. Maybe I’ll drop a name or two, but I’ve never sat down and really thought it out. Here’s a list I put together of my top five of all time. Do note that I tried to stay away from the newer releases, this list is mostly comprised of the films I grew up on, love to death, and can watch on repeat. With the exception of American Psycho, all of these are from the 80s and 90s. This was just too difficult, I left so many great movies out, I’m still not truly satisfied.
Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park

1. Jurassic Park

Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film made me believe that anything is possible. Even 16 years after its release, I can watch this continuously and still be marveled by every scene. Quite possibly the most iconic scene is when they initially arrive at the island and encounter a brachiosaur, walking among us on earth! The wonder.

American Psycho

American Psycho

2. American Psycho

Christian Bale’s most empowering performance on film. A few of my friends know of my serial killer addiction, so this movie kinda nailed it for me. In the thriller/crime drama genre, this goes neck to neck with my other favorites, Zodiac and Se7en. Truth: I tried replicating Patrick Bateman’s bed, which is why mine is completely white, like a cloud.

Back to the Future

Back to the Future

3. Back to the Future

All I can think of right now is the amazing soundtrack, Eric Clapton & Huey Lewis and the News! I always saw myself as a Marty McFly, just a kid getting into trouble and having a cute girl, and maybe one day visit the future. I’ve tried to pull him off for Halloween, but it needs to be legit so I’ll wait for the right time.

Toy Story

Toy Story

4. Toy Story

If you haven’t noticed already, Disney’s Pixar keep creating some of the most amazing movies of our time. They’re powerful, emotional, yet they’re animations. Toy Story is no exception, this movie had a huge impact on me, at the time of its release I was ten years old and it seems as if it was just released last year. It will never leave my top 5 list.

The Sandlot

The Sandlot

5. The Sandlot

My ultimate summer fun movie. Nothing greater than being a kid with nothing to lose.

Did I miss anything? What are your favorites?

FUN weekend. I shot the football game on friday evening then went out with some friends downtown, which is where I also met Megan Fox, NBD. Saturday a few of us hit the golf course for a few hours, then threw yet another amazing dirt cheap party at the house. Safe to say that our rooftop lounge is much more deluxe than the one downtown, nothing personal. I genuinely enjoyed it from beginning to end, saw some great folks I wanted to hang out with, and played tons of games. I also learned that there was a plot to beat me up in Austin, how dope! @yobigboss is an amazing dude which I’m glad I met. Adrian and his gf Victoria #2 are dirt nasty, they remind me of what used to be.

I’m absolutely loving the way things are right now, all I need is my REAL life princess.

I’m the new marketing director for the Sharyland scoreboard, so that’s kinda cool. I met up with the awesome folks at Chick-Fil-A and they’ve become my first official sponsor. I get to use my networking skillz and social media marketing to good use. My friday was ridiculous, but after all was said and done, I hit up Sharyland’s first non-district home game to shoot for a few hours, something I’ll always enjoy doing.
