One of my best friends from Austin is in town for the summer, which means I’m expecting this to be one of the best summers ever. Gabriel and I have known each other since our yesteryears, literally seen each other grow from small town bands playing ice cream shops, to what we’ve become today. We’ve toured together, bathed together, and peed off balconies together.

His current project includes gabrielcastle.com – doughp photography for the masses. He’s available to rent, own, lease for all sorts of photoshoots and parties, so book him now while he’s in town! Visit his site to preview his deluxe work, including tons of new shots for monikapolitan.com

500 Days of Summer

Fox Searchlight

Fox Searchlight is holding free advance screenings of 500 Days of Summer in major markets out there, including Austin and San Antonio. To all of my friends just north of me, be sure and take advantage of this, this film killed at Sundance. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom, a hapless greeting card copywriter and hopeless romantic, who is blindsided after his girlfriend Summer (Zooey Deschanel) dumps him, he shifts back and forth through various periods of their 500 days “together” to try to figure out where things went wrong.

Head on over to foxsearchlight.com and RSVP. Full length trailer below…

A few of us decided to drive down to the beach to spend our memorial day weekend with friends and family. I had such a good time with the broskies, and wish a few more people were out with us to enjoy the amazing weather and water funtivities (ahem, geo) I am planning a ‘better organized’ weekend out there, so keep your ears finely waxed.

On Sunday, Adrian Doug Rishi and I went tubing on our own. Had some badass dinner at Big Donkey, then crashed out. I treated my parents to some delicious breakfast at Grapevine Cafe on monday morning, then took them out on the boat for funtivities. Afterwards, we took Denise and her friends out for some more fun on the boat, and jet skis at Mooncussers courtesy of Travis.

We had one near death experience under the Port Isabel bridge, got the boat literally stuck on the beach (mega FAIL), plenty of wipeouts on the bay, complete with a full backflip falling off a jet ski, and I even got nailed in the face with the kneeboard (now sporting a gash and bruise)…I’d say this beach trip was fckn amazing and eventful. Wish you were there…

I’m so glad I was invited to visit the Old Hidalgo Pumphouse along with about 100 students yesterday. I had absolutely no idea how much history Hidalgo has had since its inception. I felt like I was one of the kids on the tour, enjoying some nifty games and listening to some of the stories, all while I was taking pictures. The purpose of the trip was to encourage migrant youngsters to stay active in their reading and learning materials while they travel to various states. I was one of those migrant kids growing up. My parents would take heavy duty jobs in Minnesota and North Carolina during our summers. It’s tough, cause we’d leave school earlier than everyone else and come back weeks after school started. So you end up being that one kid that has no friends.

I really am looking to volunteer alot of time with kids during the summer. If you know of any nifty afterschool or summer programs available, I’d love to be apart of something. I miss you!

memorial day funtivities

Here’s the latest ad I designed for Mooncussers for their Memorial Day Weekend funtivities. You can count on me being out there friday night up until Saturday evening, or sunday morning. I’m pretty excited about going out there and catching the fireworks and enjoying the sun with friends. It’s hard to believe, but I have NEVER witnessed the SPI fireworks display over the bay. If you’re in town, drop by Mooncussers and talk to Travis. He’ll set you up on the waverunners for the cheapest price on the island.

Memorial Day Weekend 2009

It’s been a fairly slow week so I found some time to hit up the movie theater and watched Rudo y Cursi on monday evening. Highly recommended; depicts a great story about two brothers and their love/hate relationship with one another, mostly competitive on their soccer career dreams.

Travis and I had a little fun photoshoot for Mooncussers recently seeing as I’m working on their new marketing campaign for the summer. We’re also discussing some super fun parties which I can’t disclose too much on. One word: daydream. If you’re in the South Padre area, make it a point to visit Mooncussers for their dope waverunners, delicious drinks, and absolutely breathtaking view. They’ll have a full kitchen by the end of the month, so there’s no reason why you should be anywhere else.

I miss softball, fortunately we’re already signed up for the upcoming season beginning in June. We’re leaving our 0-10 record behind us (along with the Isotopes stamp) and are embarking on our new franchise representing LA, welcome the Dodgers. I’ll still be sporting my #17, and am looking to steal alot of bases this season. I honestly had a dream last night that we won our first game, it better be a fckn sign.

Last night I picked up the new Esquire where Megan Fox is gracing the cover. She hates Zac Efron and High School Musical, loves being extremely sexual, and has my name tattoo’d on her hip (accidently misspelled Brian, but that’s okay) – I’d jump all over her like if she were the cure to swine flu.

I’ve officially joined the gym. It’s something that I’ve always put on the backburner for years, something I’d admittingly hate to even want to pay for – $40 a month pluuus enrollment fees? Well, it’s only been a week and I’m pretty happy about everything so far. My body is in complete shock, best way to describe it is if I was just gang raped by a bunch of cholos. But it really does feel good, and I’m looking forward to simply being healthy.

Monikapolitan joined forces with one of my best friends, Gabriel, for her current summer promotional run. And he’s doing such an incredible job with it, to say that I’m really proud of them both is an understatement. I’ve seen both of their projects grow at tremendous rates, and they’ve yet to see their pinnacle. Visit monikapolitan.com for your summer threads and gabrielcastle.com to check out his dope vision and photography. Alot of photogs out there forget about simplicity, doing more with less, which is why I personally enjoy Gabriels’ vision. Along with his spontaneous efforts, he always captures some great shots.

Check out some of the dope upcoming terminator lineup in Terminator Salvation. I remember being terrified when I was a youngster and watching Terminator. These cyborgs simply wouldn’t stop. Can’t wait till the day we see SKYNET become self aware.

Working on something big for the fall. Summer’s already looking tasty with HEY MONDAY, EVERY AVENUE, and EMERY.  And I’ve also begun preparing for a trip to New York. Last time I visited in 2006 I really didn’t take advantage of my time there. We did stay at the super deluxe Westin in Times Square, and needless to say, I think I’m going back.
