Forever the Sickest Kids (Dallas, TX - Universal/Motown)

Forever the Sickest Kids, an unstoppable powerpop group out of Dallas, has been confirmed to perform at the 2009 Never Say Never Festival on March 18. Their popularity has grown at the speed of light, with plenty of room to grow. This past year alone they toured endlessly on the Alternative Press Tour, Warped Tour, and a very successful co-headlining tour with Metro Station. South texas fans have been ever anticipating their debut to the McAllen area, well…here it is.

A Skylit Drive (Lodi, California - Tragic Hero Records)

A Skylit Drive made a huge splash on the Billboard Top 200 when their album, Wires and the Concept of Breathing, was released. They play layered and dynamic rock with heavy arrangements, keyboards and unique melodic vocals. Their summer headlining tour made a stop in McAllen with over 400 fans in attendance. A great addition to the already eccentric lineup of the 2009 Never Say Never Festival.

I’m disheartened that I won’t be able to watch Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler any time soon. I’ve been following it for a few months now and it’s finally made its limited release today. Limited as in, it won’t reach the state of Texas for a few weeks. I was a small fan of professional wrestling in 8th grade, simply to make friends with the cool kids since all they’d talk about was Wrestlemania, Sable, and Mick Foley’s ‘Hell in the Cell’ bloodbath. But in reality, that’s got nothing to do with my excitement for the film. If any of you have insiders at local theaters about special screenings or release dates, please send me an email! This is going to be such a powerful film.

I had most of last week off, which I capitalized with spending time with family, playing a few video games, visiting San Antonio, and some early Christmas shopping. My family and I all had turkey lunch at my sister’s home for thanksgiving, then spent most of the day watching the Cowboys and Texas games, all while we threw a few passes of our own outside.

My mom and Carol made all of the deliciousness that was our thanksgiving lunch from scratch. They really are some of the hardest working moms I’ll ever know. My supermom has and will always be my idol. She’s never given up on anything (including me), still works 100 hours a week, and has molded me into who I am today. She didn’t finish high school, yet I’ve learned the most from her than anybody else. She is old school.
