This weekend in Vegas, I’ll be at the pool…sunbathing. I want to go everywhere…

Dont Be Shy

Don't Be Shy

Plain White Ts is next wednesday, and it looks to be pretty mega. We’re pretty excited about having them in the area, finally, after many attempts. My spring break stint with Mooncussers was a definite success and I’m hoping to do more events out there in the years to come. I’m currently working on a 4th of July party for them as we speak, more details to come.

how to ride a jet ski

I have a feeling that South Padre is making a comeback. For the past few years, everyone and their mother has had nothing but negative things to say about our beloved beach getaway. But after spending almost two weeks out there, I’ve learned that it’s a goldmine, for both businesses and patrons alike. I invited a handful of close friends to go back out to my friend’s beach house for the weekend, so we hit up Mooncussers till closing time, then afterpartied till dawn.

The funtivities continued on Saturday afternoon as we all went jet sking at Coconuts, next to Louies Backyard. It’s a bit pricey – $85 – but you get to completely destroy the jet ski. We faceplanted twice during our outing, among everybody else. And if you don’t know how to ride a jet ski, learn how. Afterwards, we caught up with everyone else at Wanna Wanna, where we all had a few brewskies and fried shrimp, and some delicious ceviche.

Softball practice ensued as soon as we drove home sunday afternoon, and we all showed a little weakness. I took a nasty bounce right to my knee, and it knocked me on my ass for about five minutes. Tuesday’s game is at 10 pm, you should definitely come for some good laughs.

It’s all fun and games until someone gets butthurt. Safe to say that the past week and a half has been quite eventful, so here’s my personal fckshtup spring break guide. While it may all look like a non-stop party, there was plenty of work being done behind the scenes. In essence, this was my office for an entire week. Giddy up…

1. Don’t leave home without Doug.
Sounds easy enough, but these bad boys who once played collegiate football are hard to find gems. I’ve known Doug since the third grade, consider him one of my best friends, doesn’t usually make the right decisions, but he instantly becomes the life of the party in 8.2 seconds, almost as fast as his 40 yard sprint. With crazy spring break broskies lurking around town, or stragglin’ ghetto hoes looking to party, this 6’5″ monster truck handles the dirty work.

Fun-sized Doug

2. Spring Break Kicks
One can never have enough sneakers, so I hit the interwebs and found my favorite pair of personally-dubbed spring break kicks and sent them my way via 2 day air, just in time for the welcome party celebrations at the island.

3. Find a bed
We were lucky enough that we had several friends with beach houses during our week long stay. Robert, my ticket agent, and his friend Albert snatched up a delicious two story gem where they invited us to stay. I grabbed a small twin-sized bed downstairs and made myself a little comfortable for a few nights. Otherwise I simply slept wherever I found space.

No magic...

4. Extra Curricular Activities
My favorites included flying kites, riding the jetskis, my longboard, and our midnight boat ride to Mooncussers. I bought a few kites for us, which Abe completely stunk at flying. Mine went up 45,000 feet in the air, only to make a crash landing on an electric pole, which the instructions clearly read to stay away from. The jetskis were dope, I’m planning to go back this weekend just to do it again. Katie Vegas rode with me and she faceplanted on the water twice…I really wish we had pictures. The best/worst part was being on the phone half the time trying to work out the Shwayze show at SPI, while on the jetski, but more on that later.

5. Throw a Festival
In the midst of all the madness that was our spring break events, which included parties with DJ Skeet Skeet and LMFAO, throw a mega scaled festival. Went to bed at 5 am, woke up at 6 to pick up the dudes in LMFAO to start our drive back to Mission. The Never Say Never festival was amazing, and is sure to have its own blog later. We all hustled and did something that we have never done before, and we’re all proud to say that we did it, zero sponsorships and zero investors. In an interview with The Monitor, I said I only had $80 in my account the day of the festival, and that was no lie. We put everything into this, and we’re extremely happy.

6. Hand out business cards
I’ve got to give credit to whoever invented business cards. I’ve always had some, but don’t ever really use them, and boy am I an idiot. It’s so easy. All week I’d simply give out my card to spring breakers to help promote our parties, and wow did it work! The texts wouldn’t stop. Which brings me to my next point, don’t forget your chargers. I literally lived in cars for two days just charging my phone.

I’ll add more to the guide later, once I can steal some of the unseen Abe‘s pictures still hidden in his laptop.

I’ve strayed away from the wired world for the FCKSHTUP week, and it’s been surreal. I’ve got so many stories to tell, but pictures usually do better justice. Much love to my boy Abe for his amazing talent of storytelling through a lens. My recollection is a little off, but I’ll try to explain a picture or two. BIG thanks to my new friendskie Albert (pictured below) from San Antonio for providing us a beautiful beach house to kick it all week, along with other goodies.

Saturday night was our welcome party, which started at Club Pelican West for Paul’s event. We spent a while there before checking out Padre Rock, which turned out to be a little hectic. Doug, Abe, and Rishi got sprayed with pepper spray (along with 50 other spring breakers) as a fight broke out inside the club. I was  lost but then I was found. “Come with me” Henry is another new friend I’ve met over the past week, he’s taken care of us a few times and I can’t thank him enough.

After some lame weather over the weekend, blue skies came about Monday morning. Seeing as we were hosting DJ Skeet Skeet that evening at Mooncussers (which is mostly outdoors), we were quite relieved. It’s time to dance. Doug and I drove to Brownsville to pick up the dudes in LMFAO, then drove back to pick up Trevor at the airport.

I’ve met tons of awesome new people over the past week, including Jessica from Arkansas (below). She’s sort of a country gal, loves her boyfriend, been sheltered most of her life, and couldn’t believe what she was seeing at the island. We tried showing their friends a good time at our parties. I hope they made it back  home safe and sound.

Doug’s getting after me about leaving the house to head back to the beach, so I’ll post another blog tomorrow before I head to Austin for SXSW. SO MUCH MORE TO COME! We were planning to leave today but after a broken car window, we got stranded and have to wait to fix it. But tomorrow, it’s on.

I was invited by the McHi faculty to judge their annual McHi Musical Talent Show yesterday, which was quite a treat. Alongside of my friend Amy from The Monitor Newspaper, Letty from Channel 5 News, and another special guest which I forget her name (I’m bad), we got to sit through about 20 aspiring entertainers that call McHi home. We had a few dope dance crews, several rock bands, acoustic sets, great vocal singers, a tejano singer, a sick drum solo, and even a 80’s rock band that never got the memo.

I’ve got to thank McAllen High School for the lustrous hospitality. I had a great time and we were all treated extremely well, left us with partying gifts, and I’m looking forward another invite soon.

And last but not least, a faculty member had his own “dance routine to change the world”, where his wardrobe consisted of Nike sweats and all he carried was a boombox. Once that play button hit, a riot almost ensued. Tons of excited kids jumped on stage with him and followed his easy dance routine — amazing!

I can’t stress enough how good of a nightlife photographer Abe is. Here’s a small batch of photos he captured during our party with DJ Skeet Skeet on friday night. You need to hire him so he can pay the rent on time, maybe he’ll even buy me dinner. Him and I are going to kill it during spring break at south padre and never say never festival.

For the rest of Abe’s pictures, visit his blogiddy blog at aberazzi.com Follow it during spring break, imagine the possibilities. We’ve got a softball game tonight at 7 pm; we always go to dinner afterwards to talk about how much we sucked, some of the best times I’ve recently had.

We can’t be doing this forever. I need to find my way back to the start.

The SHITBETTERGETAWESOMEQUICK campaign has been in full effect for over three weeks now. That long, really? My weekend began by taking Skeet to one of my local favorite food joints – Jesse’s Mexican Restaurant – for dinner. Afterwards, we started our long evening at Shine for Trevor’s set, which he absolutely nailed. We somehow ended up having a huge afterparty that hadn’t been promoted much. Word spread like the hipster f-cking cancer and I had a packed house before I even arrived. We spent Saturday evening at the beach for the Mooncussers grand opening, then visited with Paul at Club Pelican West for his early spring break event. Got toasty, had some funskies, then headed back home at 4 am.

Okay, so we’re nine days out from Never Say Never festival, which is strange. Spring Break also begins this friday, and my schedule is already looking pretty clusterfcked. Here’s my complete lineup of events…

Monday March 16thDJ Skeet Skeet at Mooncussers SPI
Tuesday March 17thLMFAO at Mooncussers SPI
Wednesday March 18thNever Say Never Festival
Thursday March 19th – SXSW for the Moodswing360 party (austin, be here)
Friday March 20th – toss up, Akon at SPI, or another day at SXSW, varying on levels of fun..
Saturday March 21stShwayze at Mooncussers SPI

Looks pretty destructive, but I’ll make it work. In January I was positive that I was NOT going to do ANYTHING for Spring Break except SXSW. F— my life.

I hadn’t seen any pictures from last saturday (at the club) till yesterday, when Diane sent me a few heavy emails with some nice pictures. I’m glad I was able to get one with the boys, including Adrian, Doug and Enferno. We’re looking to do it all over again tomorrow night, as I’m flying in DJ Skeet Skeet from LA to perform an exclusive set at Shine from 12 midnight – 2 am. After the party is the afterparty. Thanks Diane!

For those of you that send me reminder texts and messages to “feed Buddy,” you’re funny. He’s alive and doing well, annoys the sh-t out of everyone sometimes, sh-t’s just about everywhere, and hangs off of anything he can grab…but he’s just a kitten so I understand. He has his own room upstairs, where he prefers to sleep on my one-eyed dog, Todd (seen below). He wakes me up at least 4 times during the night, eats all of the food in the house for him, and never showers. So it’s like having Doug around full-time.
