BIRTHDAY WISHLIST ALERT!

Plenty of good movies coming soon, here’s a few that I’ve got my eyes on like baby feeders.

Kick Ass
Kickass
Kick-Ass tells the story of average teenager Dave Lizewski (Aaron Johnson), a comic-book fanboy who decides to take his obsession as inspiration to become a real-life superhero. As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There’s only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.
Red Riding
Sure to be one of the cinematic events of the year, Red Riding is a mesmerizing neo-noir epic based on factual events revolving around the manhunt for the “Yorkshire Ripper,” a serial killer who terrorized northwest England in the 1970s and 80s. Three films in one, all directed by notable filmmakers. Sure to be compared to David Fincher’s Zodiac.
Shutter Island
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of my favorite actors, and this year he’s taking on some incredible roles with Shutter Island and Inception (below). Shutter Island is masterminds’ Martin Scorses’ latest psychological thriller, where two U.S. Marshals (Leo & Mark Ruffalo) are summoned to a remote island to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.
Inception
Christopher Nolan’s Inception looks pretty damn spectacular, along with its powerful cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Page, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Michael Cane, this sci-fi action thriller is about entering people’s minds/dreams with the ability to steal/plant information. In theaters July 16th.
2009 was insane, big ups and downs and all arounds. Here’s a end of year list for your entertainment only, please feel free to discuss, I’d love your input or suggestions. So many good memories this past year, here’s to doing it again in oh-ten!

Hello
Favorite Artist: Phoenix
These boys from France perfected their sound of poppy summertime jams with danceable guitars and synths with honest lyrics. The brat-pack mashup video is clearly my favorite youtube video of the year, never stops from making me dance a little.

Phoenix
Favorite Movies: Rudo y Cursi, Sin Nombre
Both of my top choices come from Mexico this year. For a little comedy, check out Rudo y Cursi with Gael Garcia Bernal. Drama, check out Sin Nombre.

Rudo y Cursi
Runner Ups: The Hurt Locker, Avatar, 500 Days of Summer
It was a pretty decent year in movies, so I have to include the ones mentioned above as well as Inglorious Basterds, Zombieland, and The Road.
Favorite Moment: Hope
2009 was a roller coaster ride with some of my biggest smiles and toughest tears. I’m surprised at myself for keeping my fire burning, it really was one of the toughest years I’ve ever endured with love, family, my business, stress, and friendships. But I’m glad to say that I survived it all, and looking forward to any other hardships oh-ten may bring forward.

Empire Magazine asked 27 stars to participate in a photo shoot and recreate some of the most iconic performances from the past two decades. Here are some of my favorites, you can check out the entire gallery here. Oh, and if you didn’t notice, the actors had to be dressed stylishly (except for one).

Anthony Hopkins & Jodie Foster (Silence of the Lambs)

Nike SB
Gym Class Heroes just released a new video for ‘Live a Little’ from their less than spectacular release, the quilt. Definitely one of the best songs of the album, and I absolutely love this video for some reason.

Quite the weekend. My friday was spent with the Sharyland Rattlers, watching them win their 10th straight game and becoming the second program in all of Sharyland history to finish an undefeated season. Good group of kids, hoping to see them advance a few rounds in the playoffs. Shouts to Scottie Meyer, Ricky Mata, Chris Zuniga, Erik Martinez, and Bobby Moran.
Saturday I held the Minus the Bear show in McAllen. Amazing is an understatement, they completely blew me and everyone else away. Afterwards, I allowed my friends Katie and Vic co-host their own private birthday party at the house, so a nice bunch of us had some of the most amazing times in the vegas-themed fiesta. It wasn’t my party, so if you weren’t invited, don’t get all butt hurt. Kudos to Katie and Vic for the decorations.
Thanks for being there…

A huge THANK YOU to everyone that helped make friday night a success. We poured months of blood and tears to make sure we had one of the biggest shows of the tour, and I’m proud to say that we most definitely accomplished our goals. This show was unlike any other, I compared it to having a first child. I wanted everyone to be there, this show was to prove that we can do what the naysayers have told us we couldn’t. For the love of music, we made it happen.
Special thanks to Gabriel, Abe, and Mitchell on capturing some of the most amazing photographs to help tell the tale.
And a huge thanks to the boys at VOLTA for making the afterparty happen where Gabe and Ryland were behind the decks all night.

I just came off a three day weekend where I spent most of time catching up on movies that I’ve missed. Four, in fact, were horror films. Paranormal Activity finally opens up in the area this friday, so be sure to find me at the thursday midnight showing at Tinseltown with a bunch of my friends. Here’s a quick briefing on my weekend picks.
Trick R’ Treat
Simply put, this is better than half the shit that actually makes it into theatres, yet it only got a straight to dvd release. This horror thriller follows several stories in a small town on Halloween eve where nothing is what it seems. I’ll be surprising some of my friends with this gem on october 31st.

Trick R' Treat
the House of the Devil
The House of the Devil, up until recently, only saw a film festival run. Now you’re able to purchase it on demand, which is what I did, for the low low price of $9.99. Geo will probably be upset with me, but it was well worth being able to watch it before it hits limited theaters. I may be wrong on that though. Either way, this horror thriller is set in the 80s, and they pull it off with flying colors. Story follows Samantha, a nearly broke college student trying to make any extra cash to afford her new apartment, which leads her to a babysitting job from hell.

The House of the Devil
Martyrs
About a year late on this one, but glad I picked up this foreign horror film over the weekend. Emotional, terrifying, and with a twist. Story follows a girls’ quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child. Usually when I show my friends movies like this, they ask “wtf do you have me watching…” I like to think that it’s a positive thing, since they’re so accustomed to watching shit films like “prom night” (remake), “hostel 2″, or “saw xii”.

Martyrs
Zombieland
Comedy horror, but an instant classic. Great enough for me to watch twice in theatres. The intro alone was well worth the $8.75, and Emma Stone has such an incredibly tuff girl character, very sexy. Compared to Shaun of the Dead, this easily takes the crown.

Zombieland
