Sing It Loud - Epitaph Records
Sing it Loud – all-around pop band out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. These dudes just finished playing in front of thousands of fans across America while supporting Cobra Starship’s Sassyback Tour. Their Epitaph Records release was produced by Josh Cain of Motion City Soundtrack. After their own headlining tour, you can catch them on the entire Warped Tour.

Artist Vs Poet - Fearless Records
Artist vs Poet - sprung to life over a year ago in Dallas, TX through a simple myspace bulletin the vocalist posted. Since then, the band is now riding the success of their latest release through Fearless Records (Mayday Parade, Plain White Ts). Although quite young, AVP has the opportunity of a lifetime that most bands never get…expect them to grow up real fast.

The Summer Set - The Militia Group
The Summer Set – hailing out of Phoenix Arizona, the summer set delivers nothing short of unique and catchy brand of fun, upbeat pop rock. They’ve made their way down to McAllen before as they’ve performed with Houston Calls and A Change of Pace in their co-headlining Ridin’ Dirty Tour.
All three, along with the previously announced – The Friday Night Boys – are the latest additions to the 2009 Never Say Never festival – now well over 20 artists! Tickets are still available at Melharts Music, Wireless Toyz, Lionels Western Wear in Weslaco, The Bullrider in Harlingen, Polarisol in Reynosa, and online at ez-tixx.com

On Monday I locked down The Secret Handshake for February 18th. Last minute gig, but his shows always turn it up to be fun dance parties. I designed the flyer today, click the image above for the full version. Cute and simple but I really dig it. Festiva announces the latest additions to the Never Say Never lineup in tomorrow’s edition, all of which I’m excited about.

Friday the 13th
I’m calling it right now: The new Friday the 13th reboot will be HUGE. Keep in mind that it is Rated R – which will make it tough to have huge opening numbers…but when it comes to the horror genre, they usually tend to be pretty low. It seems that 2009 will be a good year for the genre, as other highly-anticipated films such as Drag Me to Hell and The Last House on the Left should have great earnings. Tons of hype has been brewing on Drag Me to Hell – from the genious director of Evil Dead – which makes me super anxious to watch it.
If I didn’t have s–t else to do, I’d get a job at Blockbuster or a nearby movie theatre (looking at you Abe). Sneak previews and endless amount of buttery popcorn, projector room makeout sessions and the standard stadium seating handjob. Oh, well…

Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Last I visited the bookstore, I came across Diary of A Wimpy Kid – which oddly reminded me of myself instantly. I almost forced myself to buy a few of the series, but wimped out and instead bought a biography on Houdini.
I don’t know how to feel these days…
Lately, when I think I’m doing something good, or at least heading down the right path…it appears to be the complete opposite. Feels like I’m running three miles, but gaining six pounds. Wish I could explain it..
The good news – I bought my tickets to see Fall Out Boy on April 18th, I finished watching John Carpenter’s The Thing tonight, and Robert treated me to a nice lunch at Bean Cuisine.

The Friday Night Boys
Here’s a late night special announcement for the 2009 Never Say Never festival. We’re super proud to have The Friday Night Boys out of Fairfax, Virginia join the already electric lineup! These guys are blowing up faster than the time a girl touched my leg in 7th grade. They’re the latest addition the ever-amazing Fueled By Ramen roster (Fall Out Boy, Panic at the Disco), and have some solid touring schedules coming up. Expect big things…
For fans of: All Time Low, Boys Like Girls

Seinlanguage
Last night Abe & I painted the town red - and by that I mean we made a trip to Barnes and spent money on a few books. My favorite of the four I purchased is Jerry Seinfeld’s Seinlanguage. #1 New York Times Bestseller (in 1993). Saying that I’m a huge Jerry Seinfeld fan is an understatement, most would even call it a man crush. I’m always on the lookout for his touring dates, and he’ll actually be in Austin on April 3rd…and as I’m typing this….I just found myself realizing…that I’ll be in Vegas…
…FAIL.
Don’t worry Jerry, one day. Have you seen Stephen Kings’ Misery, well then consider me Annie Wilkes.

Slumdog Millionaire - Fox Searchlight
Slumdog Millionaire finally hit theatres today in our area – so I’m pretty excited about watching it. Fox Searchlight did really well with their two little indies that could, Slumdog and The Wrestler, both receiving oscar nominations. Although The Wrestler did seem to get snubbed in a few categories. I haven’t found definite release dates for The Wrestler in the McAllen area, but I’d love to watch it again on the big screen if it does come afterall. This weekends’ theatre trips hopefully include Slumdog Millionaire and Frost/Nixon.
During the week, I watched Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead, Bubba Ho-Tep, and Asylum thanks to my good friend Netflix. Any Bruce Campbell fans out there, Bubba Ho-Tep is a must. Before the Devil delivers excellent performances by Ethan Hawke and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. But you can skip Asylum, which does feature the somewhat-cute girl from Disturbia.
Notorious – I wasted no time in going out to see this and dragging Monica along. To my surprise, she was really excited about watching it, which is pretty rare for any movie. It’s no Denzel film, and definitely not a “Tyler Perry’s…” shitastic movie. First time actor Jamal nailed the role of Biggie, and it reminded me of sitting in my 6th grade class hearing “Tupac’s been shot!”
Abe’s still downloading pirated movies like if they were crack rock, spoiling my Netflix streaming speed upstairs. I’m glad he booked his flight to Vegas though - his pictures are going to destroy lives. God bless his little heart.

944 Vegas - Jaime King is cute
Over the weekend Monica and I frantically escaped out of McAllen to visit our family in Austin. We crashed at Gabriel & Steve’s home, partied, lunch at California Pizza Kitchen, shopped at The Domain, partied, left. We practiced our DJing skills during the later hours, and now we’re ready to tour during the summer. It was so good to see the guys.

DJ names still TBA

DJ Skeet Skeet
I teamed up with Nowhere and we’re throwing a big party on Friday March 6. Skeet is flying in for an exclusive set at Kafs - so save the date. Ten dollar presales will be available real soon, exclusively at Nowhere Clothing. This should be tit-loads of fun, as Skeet is a very well talented and awesome dj – recently dubbing Paper Magazine’s Peoples Favorite DJ award. Most of you already know him as the third piece to the Shwayze puzzle.

Believers Never Die Tour
This incredible tour was just announced, and I’m f!ckn’ ecstatic. Wait, did I just publicly announce my guilty pleasures? To hell with it, I’m still a huge fan of Fall Out Boy. Great supporting cast too in Cobra Starship and All Time Low! Monica and I love to attend shows like these, as they’re a great way for us to really enjoy each other at concerts. Its rare that I get to enjoy any one of my shows due to everything else thats going on. Tour date I’m looking at is Saturday, April 18 in Houston.

Man on Wire
Over the Christmas break I joined Netflix, since they’re offering over 12,000 titles to play instantly (on the computer, or a web ready device such as the xbox). One of their latest additions to the Watch Instantly que is Man on Wire. I’d heard all the hype in the indie circuits, but I knew it’d take me a while to ever get to watch it. That is until Netflix came to the rescue.
Side Note: Might come as a surprise, but I don’t download music or movies. I still go out and buy DVDs and CDs. I’m an old man. However, Abe did come to the rescue and downloaded The Wrestler for me, which is still probably not making its way to our part of town.
Man on Wire is a documentary about a young frenchman named Phillipe Petit, who in 1974 stepped out on a wire illegally rigged between New York’s twin towers, then the world’s tallest buildings. Aided by a team of friends and accomplices, Petit followed and executed his dream nearly 6 years in the making. On August 7th, 1974 at 7:15 am, Phillipe took his first step on the high wire 1,350 feet above the sidewalks of Manhattan. Noted to be the “artistic crime of the century.”
